There are loads of these survey sites some of which require you to pay a membership fee which to me seems a bit cheeky as the main idea is that you are getting paid for giving these sites your time and thoughts not for them to get paid by you.

Anyway I found some free to join survey sites at 123surveys. There were a variety to choose from depending on whether you stay in the US, UK or elsewhere in the world. Joining seemed fairly easy but earning money seems to take a bit longer as I've only been sent a handful of surveys to date but surely there must be some money to be made from surveys otherwise why else would they be advertised all over the net?

 Comments

Wages - where do you fit in?

If you hare curious to find out how your wages compare against other peoples in the UK then there is a useful tool on the Institute for Fiscal Studies website at http://www.ifs.org.uk/wheredoyoufitin/

All you need to do is enter some information about the number of adults and children in your household, your household income and details of council tax and the website produces a graph which shows where you fit in the UK.

 Comments

Cashbackkings

Cashbackkings is a new cashback rewards site guaranteeing to beat any other cashback site in terms of the rebates it offers. This should make it a lot easier to get the best deal as at the moment different cash back sites offer different amounts of rebates meaning you really do have to shop around to get the best deal.

How reliable is cashbackking well it is obviously new but it already has a lot of good cashback deals available and it is brought to us by that other well respected cashback site Rpoints.

According to research by NSI there is £435 million lying in dormant accounts that people have apparently forgotten about. One of these accounts has a balance of £184,000 that someone has just abandoned. The average balance in the dormant accounts is however only £3.86.

So have a think and see if you can remember opening a bank account and never withdrawing the money to close it and hopefully you will be one of the people that the NSI are trying to put back in touch with their long lost money.

1)Review your mortgage especially if you are on a standard mortgage as you could literally save thousands.

2)Get a 0% interest credit card and avoid having to pay interest on your borrowings.

3)Given that some gas and electricity suppliers have started to deop their prices make sure you're supplier is dropping yours.

4)Use a rewards card if you shop such as a Tesco Clubcard or a Nectar card if you shop on the High Street or use a cashback reward site if you shop online such as Rpoints or Topcashback.

5)If you are a smoker then give up smoking and stop burning your money.

 Comments

Rewards

Everybody likes to save money but very few people seem to be aware of online reward sites or cashback sites as they are also known.

These sites are simply shopping portals that allow you to do your ususal shopping online at shops like Amazon, WH Smiths, Tesco, CD-WOW, Dell, Marks and Spencers etc. In fact some of these sites have over 1,000 shops listed on them.

The beauty of these sites is that the shops (John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse,lastminute.com etc) all pay the sites a portion of the amount of money you spend online. The cashback sites then reward you for using them by sharing this commission with you. This can be anything up to 30% of your total online shopping bill.

Are these sites secure though I hear you thinking well I'm sure if they weren't the BBC wouldn't be talking about them as effectively you are still being directed to your usual website except instead of going to it from Google or Yahoo you are going to it via the Reward website.

 Comments

Surveys

What is it they say 90% of all surveys are made up?

Well at least half the sites offering rewards for participating in online surveys require you to sign up to survey site and then pay a commission as well. I would never pay a commission as the idea is that you should be making money from joining these sites not the other way round.

 Comments

Price comparisons

With my new credit card in hand I decided that I could really do with a DVD recorder, I know it is not essential and given my current credit card debt it is probably a bad idea but I know you can pick up a DVD player for less than £20 in the shops so I did not expect to pay much for it.

I wandered into my local Comet and saw one that attracted my attention but the price was just under £160 slightly more than I intended to pay I decided to leave my purchase until I had had a chance to shop around.

On using some of the price comparision sites available I was able to find the same DVD recorder for sale online for £146. A saving of £16 as delivery was free.

Finding something on the internet being cheaper than in the high street was not a major surprise but whilst using these price comparison sites I found the same DVD recorder on sale for £200 from an online retailer. The difference between the highest price and the lowest price to buy the same DVD recorder was a whopping £54. This just goes to show that it is always best to shop around when you go shopping!

 Comments

Credit

With my credit card debt now not having to pay interest for a while I wondered how you improved your credit rating you should ensure your name is on the electoral roll and spread credit applications out because if you have a lot in a short space of time this looks suspicious and can damage your score. Your credit rating will also improve if you can make any repayments on time and avoid being in arrears. Another credit improving idea is to cancel any unused credit cards as having access to a large amount of credit can be viewed as a bad credit risk.

 Comments

Credit cards

In an attempt to save some money I decided to sign up for a new credit card which offers me 0% introductory period for the first 6 months on purchases and balance transfers.

Given that I have a balance of over £2,000 on my current credit card and am charge a shocking amount of interest the idea of saving a significant sum of money by simply signing a piece of paper that came through the door seems a like good idea to me. All I need now is for someone to post me next weeks winning lottery ticket!

This got me wondering as to how many of the other websites that I come across on the net are old or out of date and how many are actually being updated and regularly maintained.

I wonder if anyone has ever conducted a survey or performed any work in this area. I'm sure the answer is out there but when was it done and is it out of date as well?

The doctor looked in his ear and said it looks a though there is something lodged in your ear so he carefully removed the object he could see. As he pulled it out he noticed it was a £50 note. He then had another look and pulled out another £50 note and the some £20 notes and kept on pulling money out of the man’s ear until there was not a penny left.

The doctor laid all the money out on his table, counted and said to the man “I don’t know how you managed it but there was £1,999.99 in your ear”.

“Ah” said the man “that explains why I’ve not been feeling too grand”.
